Information
The hotel carries the name of the king of Sparta Menelaus, and was inaugurated in 1935. It is housed in a neo-classical building, built on the most central, the most beautiful, tree-lined with palms, street of Sparta, providing easy access to all tourist spots even with no car available.
Its position, architecture and scale had a defining role in its promotion but also in its involvement in the historic “adventures” that Sparta has experienced, especially during the Second World War. It has been requisitioned by Italian and German troops alike and after 1944 it was used as headquarters of the Resistance and the Greek army. After the end of the Civil War, it passed again in the hands of its current owners, the Stathopoulos family.
“Menelaion” Hotel is a place with distinguishing personality, a reference point for historic Sparta and Laconia. Throughout its running, it has accommodated all celebrities that come and go to the city, people from the world of politics, culture, sports, and art.
Menelaion features classically decorated accommodation with dark wood furnishings. Each unit is soundproofed and comes with air conditioning, fridge and free Internet access. Some rooms also have a balcony.
The hotel’s restaurant serves Greek and Mediterranean dishes made with fresh products. Guests can enjoy their meal either at the elegant dining room or by the pool. Menelaion also has a lounge cafe, ideal for a coffee or an evening drink.
The Archaelogical Museum of Sparti is within walking distance of the hotel. The historic Mystras is a 10-minute drive away. Free Wi-Fi is available in the hotel’s public areas, as well as 2 PCs with Internet access. Menelaion also features a gift and souvenir shop.

The hotel management places particular emphasis on the content, quality and standard of service of the meals it offers to its guests. A preference is given to the Mediterranean and local cuisine. The restaurant “extends “to the swimming pool open area during the summer months.
Lounge café
Start your day full of energy at the Menelaion breakfast buffet. Biscuits, cake, cereal, fresh fruit, omelettes, various rolls, a variety of cheese and cold cuts, honey and a variety of jam, juice and coffee. All of the products are handmade every day by the chef, with local, fresh products. Breakfast time is from 07.00 to 10.00.
The rest of the time, the room with a view to the pool, as a reference point for the hotel and standard meeting point of the Spartans, is offered for friendly meetings from the early morning until the late afternoon for coffee, snack, sweets and talking. The café comes alive during live football and basketball matches broadcast or other athletic events.
The bar at Menelaion
At the hotel bar, you can choose from an excellent variety of spirits and inspired cocktails, accompanying them with delicious varieties of cheese, cold cuts and their local snacks. The special lounge music will chill you out, making you forget about your everyday problems.
